It was a mixed day for India on the badminton courts. World number 41, India’s Arvind Bhat lost his quarterfinal match to Chinese qualifier Kai Wen 21-13 21-10 in just 28 minutes at the Li Ning China Open Super Series. Arvind joins the list of surprise Kai Wen casualties at the event. Kai got the better of Dane World Number 8 and 6th seed Joachim Persson in the round of 16. Arvind loss caps off what has been a rather disappointing event for the India. Mens world number 14 Chetan Anand and womens world number 11 Saina Nehwal both lost their 1st round encounters earlier in the week.

Over in Glasgow at the Bank of Scotland International Badminton Championships, World number 48, India’s Anand Pawar did justice to the seeded 6 status.  After losing the first game, Anand got the better of 14th seed Frenchman Matthieu Lo Ying Ping 19-21 21-17 21-13. Anand will now play 3rd seed Englishman Carl Baxter in the quarterfinals.

Earlier in the day, world number 116, Neha Pandit lost her 2nd round womens singles encounter to the 3rd seeded Russian Ella Diehl.
