What a Sunday it was for Indian golf fans. India’s Jeev Milkha Singh won a nail-biting Singapore Open. Jeev carried a one-shot edge into the final hole at the end of a tense final round but squandered his opportunity to secure the win when his 12-foot birdie attempt curled just past the hole. Fortunately, Padraig Harrington pushed his 5-foot birdie attempt wide before Ernie Els saw his 15-footer stop on the edge of the cup, giving Singh the title.

Jeev had started the day five shots behind leader Chapchai Nirat of Thailand but three birdies on the front nine helped him to the top of the leaderboard at 7-under par.

He takes home a winner’s cheque for USD 792,500. Victory in the Singapore Open, Asia’s richest national open, has sent Jeev Milkha Singh to the top of the Asian Tour Order of Merit with more than USD 1.4 million in winnings and he now moves up to #46 in the world rankings.

Just a couple of days ago, the International Golf Federation made their case for inclusion of Golf in the 2016 Olympics Games in front of the International Olympic Committee at Lausanne, Switzerland. The International Golf Federation made their case with a series of short films that feature the top players expressing support for Golf’s bid to the Olympics. The films open up with Lorena Ochoa of Mexico, the No. 1-ranked woman golfer in the world, and close with world No. 1-ranked Tiger Woods.

There couldn’t be a better time for the emergence of Indian golf. We, at IndiaAtLondon.com, join the call for Golf’s inclusion in the Olympic Games. If golf features at the 2016 Olympics, we are sure that Jeev Milkha Singh would set his sights on the medal that eluded his father.
