Saina crowned 2008 World Junior Badminton Champ

Sunday, November 2, 2008: India’s Saina Nehwal lived up to her top seed billing by winning the women’s singles title at the just concluded World Junior Championships 2008. Saina beat 9th seed Sayaka Sato of Japan 21-9 21-18 in 26 minutes. While Sayaka played well at the net, Saina outclassed her in every other department and never seemed in trouble. Saina’s win capped off a great Championship for India. India had finished 4th in the Team event. In the men’s singles, India’s R M V Gurusaidutt put up an impressive show to reach the semi-finals where he lost to third seed Zhengming Wang of China 16-21 21-17 17-21.

    This is one helluva performance. Due credits to Gopichand for bringing out the champion out of her.
