On Thursday (Oct 23), India’s Chetan Anand (World No. 20) scored a comprehensive win against World No. 5 and 4th seed Sony Dwi Kuncoro 21-18, 21-18 to set up a quarter-final match against World No. 6 and 5th seed Kenneth Jonassen. This is a huge win for Chetan - at the 2007 World Badminton Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Chetan had Kuncoro on the mat in the third set leading 18-11 but ended up losing 11-21, 21-14, 21-18. This win will erase all the bad memories of that heart-breaking loss and give Chetan the confidence that on his day he can beat anyone in the world. Coming on the heels of Saina’s heroics, Indian badminton fans suddenly have so much to cheer for

Update: Later on Friday (Oct 24) Anand could not maintain the same kind of intensity against the home favourite Jonassen. Jonassen beat Anand in a 39-min three-set match 19-21 21-13 21-8.
